my unsolicited opinion on an issue

i posted this on my Twitter using Twitlonger and since this is a blog post in itself, it needs to be posted here too. this is my view about Bro. Armin Luistro, currently appointed as the Education secretary and former President of the De La Salle University system, my alma mater. Anyone who knows me that I've not always been supportive of what Bro. Armin has supported, but in this case, I understand his reaction with the issue. It might not have been a favorable reaction to media men, but it doesn't mean that he isn't right in reacting that way.

"Not coz I'm a La Sallian, I'm giving reason out of Bro. Armin's action during his media interview on his first day on the job. But I think it isn't right that Bro. Armin should be singled out, or persecuted, for his blunt reaction when asked by the media for his comment re: sex education. He shared his thoughts to the media, and to all of us, because for him who comes from both the academe and the Church, it isnt right that we try to witness two factors of society clash into each other and enjoy the fight going on. Bro. Armin, being from both sectors, is left to understand each side and each point that needs to be understood and evaluated in order to know how to execute a move and finalize a decision on the issue. The media might have seen this part of the interview as overbearing and snobbish, yet they've forgotten that before this, they were able to speak to him in a nice manner."

My Pan De Sal

My Pan De Sal, originally uploaded by Margeeboo.

my wishes were fulfilled by having my own pan de sal on my saucer this morning. pair with butter, and nothing could go wrong. i drank coffee too. it was simply amazing having a good breakfast.

though this is not what im blogging about.

beneath my sheer joy to eating pan de sal, i received a message from my friend. i hope you can all help me in sending prayers as he goes for his surgery today. the past two months has been a lot of doctor's visit for him. between an appendectomy, ablation, and now this irregular heartbeat problem that he has. i hope and know things will be fine, and i do hope that his next doctor's visit will tell him that he is fine as ever could be. wishes, luck, love, and prayers Magic!

thinking happy thoughts and some

*giggles!*
ok, so at this time on weekdays, i usually have a chat session with my friend Kristina who is working at this time while i'm getting myself ready to sleep (ssshhh... dont tell her boss). today became unusually thematic as i was telling her about the giddy feeling and how i ended up falling into the sins of social networking again by stalking on someone's site just to find out how this old guy friend is doing (to which i didnt get much). its funny that in an hour, we were talking about those two who added spice to my life during those times. instead of a happy feeling tho, i missed them a bit, especially guy #2.

K: where is he?
M: there. somewhere. i dunno how he is. i lost all contact after i went here. sad, aint it?
K: yeah.
M: yeah, i miss that dude.

School Wars

with our big clamor against a very uncalled for attitude by "whoever-thought-of-this-ridiculous-act" after winning, a friend and fellow La Sallian Mary Anne shares a nice post to us with more pictures and a letter from Fr. Bienvenido Nebres.

DLSU on Bonfire and Fr. Nebres Humble Correspondence

background: Ateneo De Manila University recently won the UAAP Men's Basketball, and just like the norm, there is a celebratory party. However, there was an act that was supposedly a joke on their side, but was a rude act against us, the De La Salle University community. in their bonfire party, the sticks to be used for their bonfire were nice sticks painted with last names of our players.

my initial reaction to this was a very resounding disgust towards Ateneo. being from La Salle, i was overly hurt by this rude act that surely i cannot understand why they even had to do it. i mean, they won right? but knowing a lot of Ateneans (past to present), i know that this is not their norm. i grew up living in Jesuit principles just like the Atenean education. i have the blue blood in me as much as i emerged as an Archer (the DLSU mascot), so deep in my heart i know that any sane Atenean would not have the same reaction to this matter, not even with a school rivalry that has been rooted for ages. Fr. Nebres's letter gives me back the confidence that Ateneans will not spend time creating an effigy next time that they win. (hehe!) seriously though, this event made me feel my love and continued support towards my Alma Mater, and i will never regret sharing part of my heart to DLSU.

"Win or lose, its the school we choose!"
"Hail! Hail! Alma Mater, hail to De La Salle. We'll hold your banner high and bright, a shield of green and white. We'll fight to keep your glory bright, and never shall we fail. Hail to thee our Alma Mater. Hail! Hail! Hail!"

Animo La Salle! (AMDG+)

Obsessed with the Green Archers

i found out today that De La Salle University- Manila's Green Archers Men's Basketball team is up to defend their title.

woohoo!

every UAAP season ignites this passion that lives within any college student or alumnus of any of the participating college/university in the UAAP (or even the NCAA i guess). it is manifesting me again as my dear Archers are part of the Final Four in the Men's Basketball, the event that is the soul of UAAP. there are other events (such as Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Volleyball, etc.) but as I've said, Men's Basketball is the soul. this is where fraternity is strengthened (however gender biased that may sound), this is where rivalries are further ignited (im watching you Blue Eagles! j/k!), and this is where you feel where you should belong.

i miss watching UAAP games live on TV. i miss watching it live, in the midst of green shirts. i miss being in the middle of a crowd of green and just shouting to the top of your lungs (and the following day you come to class and put up a sign "i cannot talk!").

good luck my Green Archers! Animo La Salle!

This is a fan obsessed site dedicated to our Green Archers. listen to the tunes. listen to the various mixes of our Alma Mater song. its funny to hear all these songs first thing in the morning.Obsessed with the Green Archers

Save Agno petition

to all La Sallians (DLSU-Manila, DLSU-CSB, DLSU-GSB) and anyone who has been to Agno or have made Agno a part of their life, sign this petition to tell the Manila City Hall to cease the idea of closing down Agno. Agno has been part of our lives and i for one cannot bear it being taken away from us, from our DLSU culture. so if you love Agno, sign the petition here.

*ick and dreams

*ick

i am sick. *cough, cough* (i can see Amanda Seyfried in Mean Girls coughing fakely on the phone). last night, i had one of the worst headaches in a while. working + headache is not a good combination. so i was eating inside Tita's car on the way home, eating the salad from the complete meal that i have on my plate, and when i came home, went straight to my room, drank Singulair, and fell asleep. my head was really aching bad plus my sinus were acting up so much. that office has turned its heat so much that im getting congested every time that i am there. its nutsy.

dream/s

i dreamt of this guy that i have not seen in ages. a guy i last saw three years ago. weird. i suddenly had him on my brain. it was a freaky scene. why? he and me together with a couple of friends on a theme park with a kid. wtf?!? a kid? and as the dream went, it looked like OUR kid. yikes! i mean! what?!?! its not the thought of having a kid in general thats weird, its having a kid with him who ive not talked to in, yes three years, that is sooo weird also! and him appearing in my dreams is also weird. weird. weird. weird.

maybe i was having high fever last night when i dreamt of him. i just didnt know that i had one? maybe he was the antibody trying to fight the virus or something, so i can get better? is he trying to communicate with me through mental telepathy? i dunno. all i know is that there were unresolved issues with him, and i guess thats what he is right now.

NINE POINTS!!!

please allow me to say, nine fucking points! i love La Salle! they let down the hopes of UE. it makes me feel so good to be from La Salle. haha! (no offense to UE okay, a lot from my family are from UE).

73-64
great numbers, eh? i woke up at 530 with hopes to see it via TFC. unfortunately, they werent so good to me as they were showing a different show at this time. thankfully, i had a friend, a La Sallista too, who logged on to her messenger. she gave me detailed accounts of what was happening in the game. it was the 4th quarter and there was too much energy in the crowd. it was a close game at that time as DLSU was 2 points ahead of UE. 4th quarter and 20-some minutes in the game, it wasnt a good picture. the other fact was that we were ahead of them by 9 points at half time, so a close gap is somewhat of a troubling situation there. but thanks to more efforts by whoever (yes thanks i really wasnt watching), the gap increased with an average of 5 for the next couple of minutes. free throws due to a foul also increased the gap. DLSU got their free throws in, UE missed theirs in an occasion or two. at less than a minute, it was a 7 point gap, by 14 seconds, it was the 9 point gap. thank God, its impossible to beat now!

Hail to thee our Alma Mater, Hail! Hail! Hail!
as the game ended, i was doing a mental slideshow of possible pictures of a jolly DLSU crowd. it is such a great feeling that we have redeemed the Men's Basketball crown, a crown we missed for 4 years. the sad part only with all these is that each time media reports this happy thought, everyone gets drawn to the ordeal that we had last year. for this purpose, i shall quote ABS CBN News:
With the win, the Archers redeemed themselves from their suspension in Season 69 over a highly-publicized player eligibility scandal

this was a terrible experience, not only for the players who cannot play last year, but for the students whose love for school, love for the game, and love for justice got mixed. the eligibility scandal was painful as an alumna, at the same time the suspension/ resigning from the game for a year have brought humility. however, now, being reminded of that ordeal is such a kick. not easily forgotten i know, but can we instead lessen focus on it? the fact though is that the name will always be haunted by this. its sad and painful, but thank God, we were given another door to open.

i love my Green Archers
im so eager to have a trip home and be able to see it while the Season's on. maybe in 2009? that should be great!

alarm!!!

i need to set the alarm again. 3:00 am. i need a reminder also why i have to wake up early. note to self: DLSU vs UE Game #2. i want to watch the live feed. thanks to this house's new addiction called TFC, i am now thinking of getting beat up and dog tired just to watch my school's game. well, if i get to wake up and watch it, i would be happy... though physically beat up for sure!

this is PART of why i want to watch it...

10.03.2007

http://www.myplanetgreen.net/product_info.php/products_id/362 i just had to blog this. this is so cute. im sorry to my Atenista friends, but i really found this hat cute. and okay honestly, i still have Jesuit lineage from my early years. so i still defend Ateneo whenever they are not against La Salle. ;-)

While I was reviewing...

to my fellow La Sallians (and everyone else),
this man is not St. Jean Baptiste De La Salle, but I would like to quote something about his life that I found funny and worth noting. he is a French explorer who went to Canada then to America via Mississippi river. Here is a part of his life. Enjoy!

Rene Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle gave up his vow of being a Jesuit priest because of "moral weaknesses". (Source: Wikipedia).

See? De La Salle was a Jesuit. =)
