the sin of social networking sites

i dont know if it is even a sin, but you know perfectly how these social networking sites get you to that trap of gossiping or rather tamely, snooping around people you know closely and/or up to three degrees apart. besides my indiscriminate hate which i perfectly expressed on this blog more than a year ago, i have been happy with seeing profiles of my former batch mates with either hyphenated names, a little kid on their profile picture, or their significant other beside them. overall, the one with the biggest smile on me are those with the hyphenated names, or sometimes, sometimes, they dont even get to hyphenate their names, they just have this different last name and you say "woah!"

its fun to see some batch mates who you wouldn't even expect to get married or have a baby right away. i remember back in high school, we had this class poll where three of the questions are, (1) who will be the most successful? (2) most likely to get married first. and (3) most likely to have a baby first. i knew from the older people's experience that this is never true. it rarely happens that the sluttiest will be the first to get married. it sometimes happens that the class president doesnt end up as the most successful in the class, and the girl with the most boyfriends shall be the first one to get knocked up.

it never happened. while it is rather early to say who is the most successful, for one, the one voted to get married first is happily single but attached up to this time. i felt sorry for her that time when she got that unanimous vote, but it is a laughing matter now, aint it? some of those who i found with a change in last name were some of those, when you look back, are rather unexpected. even the ones for number three, the ones who got pregnant, you would never have expected it to be that early, but what can i say, right?

as for my close buddies from high school, i have not got any word who will get married nor did i hear of anyone being pregnant. i still get to talk to them, and we are all pretty laid back and happy with our lives. for my college friends, im an auntie to one now (and he is a cutie one year old)! its pretty fun knowing from his mom about the adventures of celebrating his birthday with the drama of not wanting to wear shoes. =)
