Are all these songs really of the 90s? I feel that some of 'em are from the late 80s. Yet, that may be because I still think that I was in school at the time.

What no love any of the rap songs? That Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg was the bomb track. It should've been higher. Top 5 at least.

Spice Girls is too low, too.

How can Nelson be on this chart? I didn't know anyone listened to them.

Great to see PUSA with peaches, but it should've been Lump. Lives alone in a boggy marsh!

im really not much on rap. dunno. No Diggity's the nearest to my rap i guess.

i need to update my two stars. i was going thru it and realized i didnt put a star on a couple of artists like Madonna.

i hope for more British invasion in that list, and i hoped that Fatboy Slim didnt end up #103, i also hope that Korn was higher and "Guerilla Radio" was included. but then again, it might be just me.

Yeah. Dre should have been numero uno actually. "Nuthin' but a "G" Thang"changed MTV in general. Even more so than "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I mean this list is about MTV anyways. How's this the "greatest" when there's no mention of Bjork... Hanson and Britney beat Bjork?! What the hell. "Army of Me", Big Time Sensuality", "It's So Quiet","Human Behavior" and "All is Full Of Love".

You got "Jiggy With It"? But no "Scenerio" No "Pass'n Me By"!? Retarded. Don't get me started on bands that progressed outside the MTV realm. Where's Rage's "Killing In The Name" and "Bulls On Parade"? That doesn't beat "Genie in a Bottle". Mazzy Star anyone? Radiohead's "Creep" may have put them on the map, but it wasn't until "Paranoid Android" that you realized this band had something else going for 'em. I mean there were hints in songs like "Blow Out"(Love ot hear that live) and "Fake Plastic Trees" but it was "Paranoid Android" that made you realize these guys are gonna be around for some time. I could go on and on about groups like Smashing Pumpkins' "Today", "Disarm" "1979", "Tonight, Tonight".. man take your pick. Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge", "Give It Away". Random groups like Drugstore's "Gravity"(this group got me hooked on girls with guitars, which lead me to the next), Sleater-Kinney "Words and Guitar" Tori Amos' "Crucify" and "Little Earthquakes", The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love" and most of all "JUST LIKE HEAVEN"!!!

Man VHS 1's list looks even more shitty. Hee hee. What evs. Minority is the man in the corner with a red face.

Deep breath... anyways... "Losing My Religion" was 90's? Holy lord that seemed like 89 or something. Same with Sinead's cover.

Well the world still moves on and the tunes still ring in my brain. So what evs. "Music is music if you want to play music you can play music. If you people around to make music with.. then you can play music... naw mean?" - Bob Marley.

I think that's what he says on Talkin' Blues. Who know's that guy sounded high. =)

Korn's "Freak On A Leash" should have been there. That ushered in the 2nd coming of Goth rock.

Blur's "Song number 2" should have been there as well. Oh well. It's a stupid vanilla list. =)

this list is really like someone's random throw in of the "first thing that comes to my mind is..." the list made me think about another list i posted the last time...
MOVIE LISTS where browser even commented how random it is. the only difference? this is claimed to be VH1's.

in a more pop-ish note, i dont think backstreet boys should be up on the ranks, and neither do i think this is the life changing song. their biggest hit was "Get Down" which was not only big in the US but in UK, rest of Euro, and Asia and wherever else. it is part of 3 movie soundtracks too(i think).

Yeah, I think they passed this onto a 20 year old assistant to get it done. Hee hee. It's just a rehash of the week to week "Best of" on VH1. It's like a best of the "Best of" list list. Which is the same damn list I'll see when dead. BS that's the 90's they gave us. Not my 90's.

Without "Scenerio" that list is bunk. I can understand why Drugstore, Tori Amos and Sleater-Kinney didn't make the list. But come on, it's the Tribe! It was they and De La that ushered in a different style of relaxed hip hop.

Come on Marge. what would be YOUR 90's list, because you had different ears at the time. I'm just curious. Was it hard getting music like Korn in the Philippines?

@margeemateo said...

to answer that Q about if it is hard to "grab" music in the Philippines, my answer is im really not sure now that i think about it. but for the record, my Oasis albums were purchased on my LA trip back in '98. all i can think of right now is that pop was dominant on the shelves that time and that CDs cost 400 to 600 pesos.

now Seed, i guess our next posts should start our own Best Of's... it was making me think while listening to some songs on the way home. calling Browser, Capitol, BlueRyder, OnoCoffee, and others... jump in and start thinking of a theme for a list/s. =)
