what makes a person a person? what makes a man a man? what makes a woman a woman? this was what the two movies ive seen this weekend try to tell us.
The Dark Knight gets its take from the previous Batman movie, Batman Begins. it continuous on Batman's search for his purpose in life not only as being him but as being Bruce Wayne. he tries to understand himself in a manner that he struggles to separate his "normal" life and his life behind the mask. as Bruce Wayne, he loves Rachel Dawes and feels that his way to normalcy will be to settle down with her. as Batman, he loves to put justice on his hands. and here comes the Joker who doesnt need to hide anything from anyone. he doesnt care about what other gangsters care about, he is for the fun of having power and being able to control everyone and create a ruckus. this is his passion, and he loves the attention that Batman gives him. as he says, "i dont want to kill you. what would i do without you?" as against Batman, Joker knows exactly what he wants, because he convinced himself to live that way. Batman, on the other hand, because of his personal/emotional struggles, has no clue what he wants out of his life. he just knows that he has to continue it. but still he seeks his answer on how to continue it.
Mamma Mia also has the same emotional struggle. Sophie felt incomplete growing up without a father. though life has been good with her and her mother, she still felt that without knowing who her father was, her life will not be normal. though in the end she finds out that things do not work out the way you want it to be, she finds out that in order to know who she is, she has to value and appreciate the ones that she has now, not what she is looking for.
maybe we don't need someone else to know who we are, we just have to know what we have. it may be a long, tiring, and struggling process, and whoever we have in our lives can help us show what it is, but it is up to us to know what the answers are.
PS: i give both movies a 5/5 and i have to say that i enjoyed these movies so much. i am much convinced that i will be able to see them again.

The Dark Knight and Mama Mia are one in the same!
After all both were directed by Nolan... and Christian Bale played the Sophie character. He's pretty diverse.
=) I do want to watch "Mama Mia" on the joyous big screen though. I like the Sophie chick. She's cute. Besides I'm in the mood to hear Abba in Digital Dubly. Is that why I'm 60% Lance?
Oh and Dark Knight kicks ass the more and more I think about it.

i second the motion!
I love the film for all the reasons Browser disliked it for. =)
I think this is one of the few films we completely disagree with him.
But I guess it's not so much a disagreement, but different preferences.
This was a great post to read, its exacty what I needed today! =) Thanks!!!!
@ BR: thanks for liking it. i try to shy away from reviews. or i try to. =) thanks again!
@Seed: it was damn good to see it the second time! except for the first scenes where i had to close my eyes coz i was too close to the screen and tired from the day. still a fun thing to watch!!! though i think i made a couple mental notes that made me realize why i liked it much and why also Browser kept on disagreeing with us.
