Ivanovic won. she deserves it.
i was pretty annoyed watching this match as the commentators were noting how much Jelena changes grips during the match. how she might have a hundred grips and more than a dozen racquets to change every time she makes a bad shot. but in the end, the very thought that she does that was really annoying too.
the match ended after around 2 hours and 15 minutes, with a lot of delays due to JJ's angst against the umpire, or the superstitious changing of gear. much more annoying is that she has not changed from focusing on how she plays the game rather than getting the emotions over the slow toll of scores on her favor. she was always annoyed and it was annoying, and rather disappointing. she is a good player, mind you, yet she has to think of her general game plan, not living by scores alone. though she got praises from the commentators which included Martina Navratilova, she disappointed everyone by letting all pass her hands. it might be her lack of skill on clay, yet this is the semis honey, lack of skill is not acceptable as an excuse.
Ivanovic played a good game. she was rather calm than JJ. she was not amazing, but she played well. with the rate of play that she's had, and her ranking as WTA #2, she is up for grabs for Roland Garros trophy this year. Safina may or might be an easy opponent for her. (though that is a biased judgement as i have not seen Safina play). as what the commentators said, Ivanovic is the first one to take advantage of going up the ranks after Henin retired last month. indeed, if she continues a good streak of games, it will be easy for her to go past current #1 (Princess) Maria Sharapova. given a rounded type of playing, she can be WTA's version for the Feds who will keep the number one spot for who knows how long.
Saturday is the Finals for Women's. Sunday is for the Men's. cant wait for this to be over. cant wait for them to go back to everyone's favorite... grass.
view this Tennis Channel site with videos of umpire calls. The Ump is Always Right should be fitting with an angst ridden JJ today.
