2006

in my 22 years of life n planet Earth, it was this year that, i must say, i had a movie overload. my fondness for movies, plus the fact that i can count on a lot of people to go with to the movies, caused my overwhelmed soul to experience movie watching at a new height. so to wrap up my movie watching experience, here is my conribution to the world. my TOP 3's.

category I: the cheesy or chick flicks
(we all know what this one is about. love stories that made you fall in love, laugh and cry)
a) THE BREAK UP- whoever didnt cry with Jennifer Aniston here? the best cheesy flick off the year!)
b) YOU ME AND DUPREE-made you cry coz of laughter, but also made you get the Kleenex, for real
c) THE HOLIDAY- though it did not really make me bring out my hanky, nor fart to laughter (misdemeanor, ugh!) it was too light hearted that watching it twice was worth it (presence of Jude Law is an exception)

II: non formulary/ atypical flicks
(my kind of movies. movies that go beyond the usual for some reason. independent minded maybe)
a) MARIE ANTOINETTE- less words, more action, lots of scenery and lighting. jamming soundtrack on 18th century charachters of England. Yuppie elements.
b) THE FOUNTAIN- we have a past life, a present life (as we know it), and a future life, until the world that we know does not exist.
c) BORAT- innocence is not ugly. fake innocence is funny. real life under the microscopic view of fake innocence is very funny.

III: seeing it once is enough
(my ten bucks is not worth it)
a) RV- not my movie
b) THE LAKE HOUSE- so much for fiction!
c) THE BLACK DAHLIA- the unsolved mystery in Hollywood. I dont wish to pry on further

IV: mirror of reality
(real life thru the lens, in directors, cinematographers, and writers POV)
a) BLOOD DIAMOND- mining diamonds is a bloody, dirty, risky business
b) THANK YOU FOR SMOKING- Phillip Morris warns you of the hazards of smoking thru their weebby, but who pays for the web space ad their paychecks?
c) MAN OF THE YEAR- Philippine Political Campaigning, anyone?

V: super heroes
a) XMEN III- whatever you say, I just love the XMen.
b) SUPERMAN RETURNS- superman...
c) CASINO ROYALE- sure! super hero!

VI: i expected too much, but....
(movies that got me excited then sucked up... or just a little)
a) STRANGER THAN FICTION- all the fun is on the trailer, nothing more, nothing less.
b) HOLLYWOODLAND- if not for Ben Affleck!
c) *open space*

STARS OF THE YEAR!!!
HUGH JACKMAN and SCARLET JOHANSSON!!! (2 movies together, and a whole lot more that you saw them this year)

MOVIE OF THE YEAR: maybe The Good Shepherd. talk about elements. that is where it stands.

TOP DVD PICK: LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (coz i havent watched it and got it)

ok, world, thats it! i'll cracsh first, and get back to life later.... when ive go my brains back!
